A dance-less world

A SuperTalk* conférence by Céline Roux

Sugar-free, gluten-free, wireless, cellulite-free, lead-free, effortless, risk-free… Our contemporary world worships more and more the “less” and the “free”. What would be left if we pushed the subtractive logic to the extreme? For instance, what would be a dance-free world? Pretext or context to produce another elimination or the creation of a “less”? If the people in charge of the choreographic centres went out in the street, if the dance public made a fuss, if the theatre, ballroom, street, folklore or night clubs dancers denigrated the proposition, he amongst you who is forced to dance at every turn will see the hope of a more serene world rising. Enter the dance or burry the dance? That is the question. A question which deserved even more to be asked as some contemporary choreographer are themselves zealot of a dance which does not dance.

Céline Roux is an independant researcher. Specialised in contemporary dance, she is the author of Danse(s) performative(s) (L’Harmattan, 2007).

* SuperTalk is a conference house as there are “publishing house” or “record company”. Its ai mis to share singular knowledge giving those who are passionate a chance to speak.
