ERWAN KERAVEC

France (Bretagne)

Music does not need eyes. They are even sometimes an obstacle. We just need to see a movement to comprehend the sound it will make and this sound does not surprise us anymore. When blindfolded, every sound is a surprise. We are then attentive, watchful. Space also does seem different to us. We discover the distance anew. Close sounds seem to us even closer. The difference between what is far to what is close seems to us unfathomable.

ERWAN KERAVEC
Erwan Keravec is a Breton piper (Scottish bagpipes) whose eclectic path ranges from traditional to contemporary music and improvisation. This encompasses free improvisation with Mats Gustafsson, Beñat Achiary, Jean-Luc Cappozzo, etc.; writing and playing music for modern dance companies, a traditional duo with his brother Guénolé Keravec; playing solo pieces written for him by such contemporary composers as Wolfgang Mitterer, Oscar Bianchi, Oscar Strasnoy, Philippe leroux, José-Manuel lopez Lopez, etc.
Lastly, in ‘Urban Pipes’ Erwan presents his work as a composer and an improviser.
