A love supreme

Salva Sanchis, Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker / Rosas

A Love Supreme is a summit of saxophonist John Coltrane’s work. It is an unleashed psalm that is rushed through by a mystical breath. While venturing into this unexplored musical land, together with Spanish choreographer Salva Sanchis, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker tried to mould each syncopation. The two choreographers rethought their 2005 work by surrounding themselves with four young dancers. For this new version they go through the matter in fusion with the same demand for freedom. Between mastery and improvisation, control and abandonment, ardour and precision, the dancing dynamic magnificently fits into the ascetic and fiery gush of Coltrane’s
music, intensely seeking absolute and liberty. Giving an impression of opening up to infinity through the stirring constellation of movements, and in deep resonance with music, dance stretches out towards the ultimate horizon of transcendence. Remaining faithful to the spiritual power of the original work, it is a play of a rare breadth.
